Using high/low décor… wait what!?
Many of us are used to hearing about and seeing luxury décor in magazines, on television, in designers showrooms, but WHAT is high/low décor?
I love the idea of this, as I know that for many people they want a really stunning room/home, but the price tags of some furnishings, art and accessories is out of this world! This is where using high/low décor comes in.
Usually it involves one good, solid, and striking piece. It could be a sofa, a cabinet, art work etcetera. This is a piece you just have to have and your décor is focused around it. All other pieces then “look” like high end items, but are sourced at a fraction of the cost (the much lower price tags). For instance, that $8000 sofa, might be replicated for $1500 or possibly even less on a good sale. The $4500 piece of art, could be sourced as a replica for maybe $250. You could even go low/low if your budget dictated that, but I would suggest meeting the middle with high/low. Some other pieces could be higher end, matched with some lower end price tags in other areas. For instance, if you did not want $300 cushions, you could likely source great ones for $25 to $50 each. Or if you love some of the stores like Winners, Home Sense, Home Goods, Pier 1 Imports, Urban Barn etcetera, and some local accessory stores in your area, you could likely pick them up slightly less expensive, or on sale!
Some décor magazines show the high/low options, which is great for understanding the process. So the room you always wanted decorated but feared the price tag… just got a whole lot more affordable!
